Sara’s Sunflower Wedding

Sunflower Wedding Bouquet

Seriously, how fun is this photo?! I love to see the intimate candid moments of a couple’s wedding day, and this shot by April Williams Photography really captures this couple’s personality. I’ve known Sara and Derek for years — in fact, I’ve known them since before they were “Sara and Derek” —  So I was very excited when they asked me to do their wedding flowers.

Yellow, Blue, and Pink Bride's Bouquet Sunflower Bridesmaid's Bouquets

Sara has a bubbly fun personality, and she wanted a bright and cheerful wedding bouquet. Her bouquet was designed around her favorite flower (sunflowers) and her favorite color (cobalt blue). Sara’s bridal bouquet featured sunflowers, dahlias, and viking poms in shades of yellow; hydrangea in cobalt blue, and gerber a daisies, spray roses, and gloriosa lilies in pink. This was one of my favorite bouquets of the year!

Sara’s bridesmaid’s carried a simple bouquet of sunflowers, accented with a bit of willow and greenery.

Lewis River Golf Wedding

Sara and Derek were married at the beautiful  Lewis River Golf Club in Woodland, WA. I love this venue because you get the manicured lawn of the golf course, but the garden area is more rustic, situated along the Lewis River. Sara’s father made this arch as their wedding present, and we decorated it with modern floral swags featuring cobalt blue hydrangea, sunflowers, viking poms, montecasino, spray roses, greenery, and curly willow. I love to create a modern wedding arch… this one was so cheerful! The aisle featured simple flower arrangements in blue glass, hanging from shepherd’s hooks.

Wedding Centerpieces in cobalt glasFor the guest tables, Sara collected cobalt blue glass bottles, bowls, and vases. We created an assortment of arrangements, both large and small, and created vignettes on each table. Flowers included hydrangea, snapdragons, gerbera daisies, sunflowers, solidaster, and willow. The colorful flowers really popped against the rustic lodge setting.

I wish Sara and Derek a lifetime of happiness together! Thanks for letting me be a part of your wedding.

The Modern Cascading Bridal Bouquet

3 Feb

Hanging amaranthus bridal bouquet

Modern cascade bouquet featuring romantic garden roses, kale, orchids, sweet peas, lisianthus, tuberose, eucalyptus seeds, and renunculus. (Flowers by Snapdragon Studio)

Utter the word “cascading bride’s bouquet” and you’ll often be met with a cringe and frown from today’s brides. The term brings to mind the huge, stiff, unnatural -  and dare I say ugly? – bouquets of the 80s and 90s. Not at all what the modern bride wants to carry on her wedding day!

Today’s cascading bouquets are much more organic in look and composition. The cascading elements in the modern bouquet are created by the natural shape and lines of the flowers, rather than by forcing straight stems into a foam and plastic bouquet holder.

This sassy modern cascade bouquet features calla lilies, dahlias, popcorn hydrangea, freesia, fern curls, mini hydrangea, bear grass, and orchids. (Snapdragon Studio)

Some of my favorite flowers to use in a modern cascading bride’s bouquet are calla lilies, freesia, sweet peas, orchids (phalenopsis, dendrobium, cymbidum, or mokara), lisianthus, and garden roses. Seeded eucalyptus, bear grass, italian ruskus, and feathered eucalyptus are some of the greens I like to use to accentuate the shape of a cascade.

Sometimes a few trailing elements are all you need to add a bit of drama to your wedding bouquet. (Snapdragon Studio)

If you’re a modern bride looking to add a little drama to your wedding day, a cascading bouquet may be just the thing for you. I’d love to talk to you about your wedding flowers, call or email me today to set up a free consultation.

Smiles,
Jennifer

Christy’s Modern Wedding Arch

Christy’s Modern Wedding Arch

modern wedding archChristy was married at Bridal Veil Lakes, an absolutely stunning outdoor venue. She wanted the beautiful lakeside arch to be decorated… but she didn’t want a basic floral arch along the top. Christy is a hip marketing professional, so she wanted something to reflect her modern tastes. Instead of a large arrangement at the top of the arch, we did two large arrangements at each corner.

arch-rightThe arrangements were natural and unstructured, designed with spider mums, hydrangea, snapdragons, bells of ireland, stock, and  hanging amaranthus. Springeri fern and boxwood trailed along the arch from each arrangement. Three smaller arrangements accented the arch, one on each side at the bottom, and one in the center top. Her vibrant colors really popped against the trees and lake in the background!

We created two different centerpieces for Christy’s reception, all in the same vibrant shades of purple, green, and magenta. The first was a low round arrangement in a compote vase. The second arrangement was more free-form and a bit taller. Together they set a gorgeous background for Christy & Chris’s wedding reception.

Lisa’s Lovely Wedding

Lisa’s Lovely Wedding

inglis-bride-bouq-2This week I had the pleasure of doing flowers for Lisa and Tim’s wedding. They were married in the beautiful Oaks Pioneer Church in Sellwood. This was my first wedding in this quaint chapel, and I hope to do more! Lisa chose colors that complimented the chapel perfectly, right down to blue hydrangeas that coordinated with the lush blooming hydrangea bushes at the chapel’s doors.

Lisa’s bridal bouquet featured purple lisianthus, lavender and purple calla lilies, blue and green hydrangeas, green spider mums, and hypericum berries. This may be one of my favorite bouquets ever! I’m normally not a huge fan of calla lilies, but the gorgeous purple and white variety shown here really makes the bouquet pop.

wedding bouquets in shades of purple, blue, and green. Bridal bouquets featuring purple calla lilies, purple lisianthus, green hydrangea, blue hydrangea, green spider mums, green pom flowers, green hypericum berries, and purple sweet peas.

Lisa’s bridesmaids carried coordinating bouquets in shades of green and blue with touches of purple.  Flowers included hydrangea, pom flowers, spider mums, and sweet peas. I think these are such sweet and romantic bouquets, and they looked fantastic next to the maid’s purple dresses.  I love how these bouquets coordinate without being too “matchy-matchy.”

ingils-altarHave I mentioned how much I love the Oakes Pioneer Church? I mean, really… how sweet is this? What a romantic place to get married! There are only about 8 rows of pews, many of which are the original pews from 1883. LOVE it!

inglis-bw1 I love this photo.  I know you can’t see the color, but I think it captures the beauty anyway.

Congratulations to Lisa and Tim… thank you for inviting me to be a part of your big day.

Vanessa’s Blue & White Wedding

Vanessa’s Blue & White Wedding

kerr-bouq-bride1kerr-bouq-maidsVanessa wanted a romantic bridal bouquet  in shades of ivory and cornflower blue. Her light and airy bouquet features cymbidium orchids, roses, hydrangeas, grape hyacinths, and little hyacinth blooms. Her bridesmaids carried posies of hydrangeas, spray roses, carnations, pom flowers, and grape hyacinths. kerr-bouts
kerr-bout-close-up
I’ll admit it… I’m usually not a big fan of boutonnieres. (sorry, gentlemen!) However, I must admit that I absolutely LOVE these! The groom’s boutonniere featured a calla lily, the groomsmen had a spray rose, and the family wore pom flowers. All boutonnieres featured grape hyacinths. Don’t you just love them?! I’m feeling some fresh inspiration for boutonnieres…

kerr-detail

I believe that little details make a big impact. This monogram decorated Vanessa’s bouquet box. Fun, huh? It’s my hope that these finishing touches help to make a bride feel extra-special on her wedding day.

Congratulations Vanessa. Thanks for letting me be a part of your day!
