Burgundy and Brown Wedding Bouquet

Green and white wedding bouquet

Burgundy, brown, and green wedding bouquet

Every once in a while I get the opportunity to do something new. This bouquet was one of those times! Jennifer wanted an elegant bouquet in shades of burgundy, brown, and ivory, but she had no idea what flowers she could use. I had never created a burgundy and brown bouquet before, so I was excited to work with her. We started with one of my favorite roses, the Black Bacarra. This brought some nice dark burgundy red tones to the bouquet, as did the throats on these gorgeous coffee brown cymbidium orchids (aren’t they to die for?!)  A more traditional burgundy color came from carnations. Ivory roses and pearls added just the right touch of ivory to Jennifer’s bouquet. Mini hydrangea, Green Tea roses, and seeded eucalyptus brought in gorgeous shades of green. Really, though… the star of this bouquet is the brown cymbidium orchids. They were the perfect shade of coffee brown. It was the subtle burgundy and ivory colors that occur naturally in the orchid’s throat that made this flower absolutely perfect for Jennifer.

Green and white bridesmaid's bouquetJennifer’s bridesmaid’s carried a simple hand-tied bouquet in shades of white and green, featuring hydrangea, carnations, a few roses, mini hydrangea, and seeded eucalyptus. Simple and elegant!

Here at Snapdragon Studio we’re gearing up for the big wedding season. As April approaches, we are getting ourselves ready for weddings just about every weekend. If you’re still in need of flowers for a summer 2012 wedding, call us right away… dates are starting to book! Sara’s Sunflower Wedding

Sunflower Wedding Bouquet

Seriously, how fun is this photo?! I love to see the intimate candid moments of a couple’s wedding day, and this shot by April Williams Photography really captures this couple’s personality. I’ve known Sara and Derek for years — in fact, I’ve known them since before they were “Sara and Derek” —  So I was very excited when they asked me to do their wedding flowers.

Yellow, Blue, and Pink Bride's Bouquet Sunflower Bridesmaid's Bouquets

Sara has a bubbly fun personality, and she wanted a bright and cheerful wedding bouquet. Her bouquet was designed around her favorite flower (sunflowers) and her favorite color (cobalt blue). Sara’s bridal bouquet featured sunflowers, dahlias, and viking poms in shades of yellow; hydrangea in cobalt blue, and gerber a daisies, spray roses, and gloriosa lilies in pink. This was one of my favorite bouquets of the year!

Sara’s bridesmaid’s carried a simple bouquet of sunflowers, accented with a bit of willow and greenery.

Lewis River Golf Wedding

Sara and Derek were married at the beautiful  Lewis River Golf Club in Woodland, WA. I love this venue because you get the manicured lawn of the golf course, but the garden area is more rustic, situated along the Lewis River. Sara’s father made this arch as their wedding present, and we decorated it with modern floral swags featuring cobalt blue hydrangea, sunflowers, viking poms, montecasino, spray roses, greenery, and curly willow. I love to create a modern wedding arch… this one was so cheerful! The aisle featured simple flower arrangements in blue glass, hanging from shepherd’s hooks.

Wedding Centerpieces in cobalt glasFor the guest tables, Sara collected cobalt blue glass bottles, bowls, and vases. We created an assortment of arrangements, both large and small, and created vignettes on each table. Flowers included hydrangea, snapdragons, gerbera daisies, sunflowers, solidaster, and willow. The colorful flowers really popped against the rustic lodge setting.

I wish Sara and Derek a lifetime of happiness together! Thanks for letting me be a part of your wedding.

Ravishing Red Wedding Flowers

1 Aug

Low round centerpiece in shades of red and green

Red wedding bouquetI think I’m in love. This gorgeous red wedding bouquet features one of my favorite flowers, the Black Bacarra Rose. Other flowers include garden roses, mokara orchids, spray roses. hypericum berries, and eucalyptus.

Red and green pew decoration Pew flower arrangements on shepherd's hooks

The Cedars on Salmon Creek was the perfect setting for Tara and Tracy’s wedding. The outdoor ceremony took place on the 10th hole of the golf course. We designed these sweet and simple flower arrangements in mason jars to hang on shepherd’s hooks to line the aisle. The pew decor featured dahlias, mini hydrangea, garden roses, black bacarra roses, astible, eucalyptus, and waxflower. Don’t they look fantastic against the lush green of the golf course?

Red wedding centerpieceThe reception took place in the dining room. Low round centerpieces in shades of peridot green with red accents decorated each guest table. The flowers were designed in our signature silver compote dish, and given away to guests as they left the reception.

I can’t wait to see the professional photos Jeremy at Jeremy Pozel Photography took, I’ll be sure to share them as soon as I can.

Huge thanks to Tara and Tracy for allowing me to design their wedding flowers. I loved the opportunity to work with Susan at The Cedars on Salmon Creek, and I look forward to doing more events at this fantastic venue.

White Wedding at Leach Botanical Garden

21 Jun

Flowers by Snapdragon Studio logo

I’ll admit it. I’m not a fan of white wedding flowers. Not that I don’t find them gorgeous, I do… it’s just that my personality is generally a bit more colorful. However, I must admit that I absolutely loved the way these wedding flowers turned out.

The bride Cynthia is an artist (Check out her amazingly cool work at www.cynthiamosser.com), and she had a fantastic vision of a romantic, naturally beautiful wedding. She loves succulents and peonies, so we designed her wedding bouquet with those as the star. Hydrangea, scabiosa, hypericum berries, and freesia completed her bouquet. Beautiful, if I do say so myself!

The ceremony and reception were held at Leach Botanical Garden, one of my absolute favorite wedding locals in Portland. The garden setting is just gorgeous, with natural beauty everywhere. We decorated the pergola with a garland of white and green flowers, featuring hydrangea, fragrant stock, carnations, spider mums, alstromeria, and pom flowers. Against the lush green backdrop of the gardens, the crisp white and lime green flowers were perfect!

The groom wore a cymbidium orchid boutonniere with succulent and berry accents. I know it’s a little braggy of me to say it… but itsn’t it gorgeous?! The bride and groom’s mothers wore cymbidium orchid wrist corsages, accented with freesia and hypericum berries.

Check out these fantastic centerpieces. I’d love to take all the credit, but Cynthia had a vision of using moss and succulents… I just made it happen. Each of the 10 centerpieces were unique, featuring moss (from Cynthia’s garden, how cool is that…), orchids, succulents, and twigs. Each centerpiece included a sweet bird along with the super-fun chalkboard table markers. So sweet!

Huge hugs to Cynthia and Ted for letting me be a part of their big day. I had an absolutely fabulous time!

Pamela’s Cheerful Flowers

2 May

Aerie at Eagle Landing wedding flowers

Pamelas bouquetsPamela's ceremonyThese colorful flowers make me happy! I had the honor of designing Pamela’s wedding flowers this past weekend, and I had a blast doing it. Pamela’s favorite flowers are lilies, so her bridal bouquet featured orange asiatic lilies,  Cherry Brandy roses, gerbera daisies, and spray roses, along with white hydrangeas and spray roses. Very cheerful! Her bridesmaids carried colorful bouquets in shades of orange and green with yellow accents. Flowers included gerbera daisies, carnations, spray roses, and pom flowers.

Pamela’s ceremony and reception took place at The Aeire at Eagle Landing in Happy Valley. The garden area is absolutely gorgeous! We designed colorful arrangements for the base of the arch to compliment the lovely pergola.

The Modern Cascading Bridal Bouquet

3 Feb

Hanging amaranthus bridal bouquet

Modern cascade bouquet featuring romantic garden roses, kale, orchids, sweet peas, lisianthus, tuberose, eucalyptus seeds, and renunculus. (Flowers by Snapdragon Studio)

Utter the word “cascading bride’s bouquet” and you’ll often be met with a cringe and frown from today’s brides. The term brings to mind the huge, stiff, unnatural -  and dare I say ugly? – bouquets of the 80s and 90s. Not at all what the modern bride wants to carry on her wedding day!

Today’s cascading bouquets are much more organic in look and composition. The cascading elements in the modern bouquet are created by the natural shape and lines of the flowers, rather than by forcing straight stems into a foam and plastic bouquet holder.

This sassy modern cascade bouquet features calla lilies, dahlias, popcorn hydrangea, freesia, fern curls, mini hydrangea, bear grass, and orchids. (Snapdragon Studio)

Some of my favorite flowers to use in a modern cascading bride’s bouquet are calla lilies, freesia, sweet peas, orchids (phalenopsis, dendrobium, cymbidum, or mokara), lisianthus, and garden roses. Seeded eucalyptus, bear grass, italian ruskus, and feathered eucalyptus are some of the greens I like to use to accentuate the shape of a cascade.

Sometimes a few trailing elements are all you need to add a bit of drama to your wedding bouquet. (Snapdragon Studio)

If you’re a modern bride looking to add a little drama to your wedding day, a cascading bouquet may be just the thing for you. I’d love to talk to you about your wedding flowers, call or email me today to set up a free consultation.

Pretty In Pink Wedding

10 Oct

Pink Wedding at Camas Meadows

Erin is a fun and friendly gal… and she LOVES pink! Erin and her fiance Allen planned an outdoor ceremony at the gorgeous Camas Meadows Golf Course. Unfortunately mother nature had other plans, but of course the rain didn’t dampen the day’s excitement!

These gorgeous photos are courtesy of Kellene at Bella Lucia Photography. I stole them all from her Facebook page… aren’t they fabulous?!

Erin carried a bouquet filled with pink blooms, including garden roses, dahlias, standard roses, late summer hydrangeas, and pom flowers. Her bridesmaids carried similar bouquets in lighter shades. For her reception in the tent, we did three different centerpieces. One is shown above, made of the same happy flowers as her bouquets. The second centerpiece design featured pink hydrangeas, and the third pink carnations. So fun and happy!

I loved Erin’s ceremony arrangements! Simple white urns were filled with fern and greenery, hydrangeas, garden roses, standard roses, hydrangea, snapdragons, hanging amaranthus, and curly willow.

I wish Erin and Allen a lifetime of happiness together… may God shower them with blessings today and always.

Thanks again to Bella Lucia Photography  for making my flowers look so fabulous!

Bethany’s Wildflower Wedding

25 Aug

Daisy boutonniere
Bethany's wildflower wedding bouquetsThis bouquet makes me so happy… It may very well be my favorite bouquet of the year! Bethany is a spunky redhead who got married in her friend’s backyard. She wanted something natural and cheerful, featuring her favorite flower, daisies. Her bridal bouquet featured dahlias, daisies, sunflowers viking poms, zinneas, amaranthus, greenery, ferns, and even wildflowers from my back yard, all in bright shades of orange, green, and yellow. Her maid of honor carried a bouquet in the same color scheme, without the white daisies. Little monticasino flowers (they look like mini daisies) added a fun touch of whimsy to the bridesmaid’s bouquet.  It looks like these bouquets came straight from the garden, doesn’t it?

I also love these wildflower boutonnieres. No two are the same! Flowers include dahlia buds, viking poms (they look like little sunflowers), safflower (thistle-looking bud with orange tuft) , montecasino (mini daisies), and fern. The daisy boutonniere is for the groom.

I really enjoyed working with such a carefree and fun bride… huge thanks to Bethany for letting me be a part of her big day!

Vanessa’s Blue & White Wedding

kerr-bouq-bride1kerr-bouq-maidsVanessa wanted a romantic bridal bouquet  in shades of ivory and cornflower blue. Her light and airy bouquet features cymbidium orchids, roses, hydrangeas, grape hyacinths, and little hyacinth blooms. Her bridesmaids carried posies of hydrangeas, spray roses, carnations, pom flowers, and grape hyacinths. kerr-bouts
kerr-bout-close-up
I’ll admit it… I’m usually not a big fan of boutonnieres. (sorry, gentlemen!) However, I must admit that I absolutely LOVE these! The groom’s boutonniere featured a calla lily, the groomsmen had a spray rose, and the family wore pom flowers. All boutonnieres featured grape hyacinths. Don’t you just love them?! I’m feeling some fresh inspiration for boutonnieres…

kerr-detail

I believe that little details make a big impact. This monogram decorated Vanessa’s bouquet box. Fun, huh? It’s my hope that these finishing touches help to make a bride feel extra-special on her wedding day.

Congratulations Vanessa. Thanks for letting me be a part of your day!

Orchids… oh my!

24 Mar

Orchids… oh my!

Orchids  are always beautiful, of course… but this time of year in the Pacific Northwest they are absolutely amazing. I loved using these buttery yellow cymbidium orchids for a bridal show last weekend.

grace-arrangement

Fantastic, right?! This arrangement was a centerpiece for a 6 ft. dining table. A larger version could also be used as a ceremony arrangement… perfect for your communion table or altar. This gorgeous arrangement in shades of yellow, red, and orange features cymbidium orchids, roses, kangaroo paw, button poms, and greenery. I’m a bit embarrassed to admit I have no idea what the delicate white flowers are. They grow on a bush in my neighbor’s field and I just fell in love… :o )

graces-bouquetOrchids, especially cymbidium orchids, bring a very elegant touch to a bridal bouquet. This bouquet is simply to die for – even if I do say so myself!

Don’t you just love the cool vase this bouquet is displayed in? It’s my newest fab find from BlumeBox http://www.blumebox.com I use these nifty biodegradable boxes to present bouquets to my brides and bridesmaids. These boxes allow bouquets to remain in water, while being super-easy to transport. A bit of ribbon and your monogram are the finishing touch!

If you’re getting married, give me a call. I would love to design bouquets and arrangements that fit your personality… AND stay within your budget.

The bouquet above is $139; the arrangement is $119
